Hepatocyte Nuclear Factors (HNFs) are primarily required for cellular differentiation and metabolism. Unlike most transcription factor families, this group of evolutionarily conserved proteins does not have a common consensus-binding site. This makes assaying HNF family activity using classical EMSA or reporter assays cumbersome and time consuming.
