Transcriptional Regulation

TransAM™ SREBP1

Sterol-regulatory element (SRE)-binding proteins (SREBPs) belong to the family of basic helix-loop-helix leucine zipper transcription factors. SREBPs can be difficult to study since they are synthesized as inactive precursor proteins bound to the endoplasmic reticulum and nuclear envelope, yet once they are activated by sterol deprivation the precursor protein is cleaved to release the activated N-terminal portion. The cleaved SREBP1 then enters the nucleus and activates transcription of genes involved in cholesterol and fatty acid synthesis. TransAM SREBP1 makes studying SREBP1 isoforms 1a and 1c activation easy. This kit detects SREBP-1a and -1c in nuclear extracts of human, mouse and rat samples.
