Y-79 nuclear extract was prepared from cell cultures of the human retinoblastoma Y-79 cell line. Retinoblastoma is a rare malignant tumor in the retina of the eye caused by a mutation in the RB1 gene. Retinoblastoma is usually diagnosed in early childhood and is a highly treatable form of cancer. The Y-79 cell line is commonly used in research as an in vitro model system to study the biophysiological properties of the retina as well as of retinoblastoma-related growth and tumorigenicity.
