KLF10 binds to Sp1 / GC rich DNA sequences and can activate or repress the transcription of a number of genes. KLF10 is especially important for osteoblast function, including bone mineralization and support of osteoclast differentiation. KLF10 is rapidly induced by TGFβ, bone morphogenetic protein, estrogen and epidermal growth factor. KLF10 plays a major role in TGFβ-mediated inhibition of cell proliferation and inflammation and induction of apoptosis.
